Lanyon Quoit 03

Lanyon Quoit is the most beautiful dolmen in the area; elegant and tough. This is the third artwork I made of it. Fine liner, pencil and watercolor, 15 x 23 cm.

Lanyon Quoit

Lanyon Quoit is a dolmen in Cornwall, the southwest of England. Many neolithic monuments adorn the almost treeless plains in the hills. This is the most beautiful in the wider area; high, elegant, proud and tough. It has an almost magical appearance. It was even more impressive before the Napoleonic wars. With four supporting stones and so high that a man on his horse could ride under it. A violent storm made it collapse. The dolmen was irreparably damaged. Now it is only man’s height. But the new arrangement of the three remaining supporting stones is fantastic. It is different to see from every side. A true beauty.

I’ve made this image with watercolor, fine liner and pencil on paper, 15 x 23 cm.
