Stone Age

The Stone Age is the earliest period that humanity existed. It lasted two million years. This makes it not only the earliest, but also by far the longest historical period. So it’s not surprising that so many important things happened at that time. For example, different types of people came and went until only homo sapiens sapiens remained. Fire came under control. Continents outside of Africa were inhabited. Ice came and went. Megafauna became extinct. Agriculture made its appearance. And art came into being.

After all these years, the Stone Age still offers me an inexhaustible source of inspiration. For example the fantastic cave art. Or the dolmens and the engraved rocks. These ancient expressions communicate directly in a universal way. They are messages from a time that we will never fully understand again. They make an elusive connection with our deepest selves. After all, the Stone Age is the time that we humans came into existence and took our current form. And that is a reason for me to make art out of it.
